Jocelyn Hadley-Buxton has been a teacher in New Zealand classrooms since 1973. For three years she was a special needs coordinator and tutor for special needs students. From 1991–2000 she worked at Sydenham School in Christchurch where she was the class teacher for students with communication delays and disorders. In 2000 Jocelyn began her current position as a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB). This involves working collaboratively with classroom teachers to explore strategies that assist student learning in the primary and secondary inclusive classroom. Jocelyn also co-facilitates ‘tips for autism’ courses, where visual strategies are promoted as part of best practice for supporting students with autism. Visual strategy use has supported her work as an educator and also as a parent of a son with Down’s syndrome/autism.
