Statistics Resources for Primary Schools

Through primary and on to the end of secondary school, students have the opportunity to increase their understanding of statistics and how they can be used to predict and sometimes prove or disprove a range of theories. Statistics is closely linked to probability in mathematics. While probability predicts the likelihood of future events, statistics are used to analyse the frequency of past events. The probability of something occurring in the future can be clarified by statistics about how often the same thing has happened in the past.

Statistical applications, processes and formulas become more complicated and diverse as learning progresses. There is a collection of Essential Resources that can help with developing skills in this area. Some are statistics titles from mathematics series such as Solving Real-world Maths Problems, Hooked on Statistics and Statistics Smart. Some combine probability with statistics such as the different levels of Statistics and Probability:Task Cards for thinking, doing and sharing.
