Drama Resources for Primary Schools

Drama is connected with literacy and the language curriculum (English and other languages) as performances are often based on written scripts. However, the scope of drama is much more extensive than this alone. It is storytelling, entertainment, improvisation and exploring ideas in a physical, 3-D way. It can deal with history, current issues or future possibilities. Drama is physical, visual, oral, and can be interactive, involving participation from the audience as well as actors.

The drama resources offered by Essential Resources are mainly targeted at primary school classes, such as Drama Nibbles, but most of these drama resources could be easily adapted or used as a starting point for junior secondary as well. Some provide scripts as in Performing Starts Here and the Readers’ Theatre series. Playing With the Curriculum and Learning English the Play Way demonstrate the wider connections and applications of drama in Australian primary schools.
