Flexible learning at your own pace
Learn to suit your own schedule and team needs. Complete a topic online, then discuss and reflect on it and your practices. Identify aspects for enrichment and then use the support books to build further knowledge.
On completion of the online course, you will be awarded a certificate.

Online course content
Developed by Kay Margetts, one of Australia’s leading early-learning academics and authors, the course focuses on six topics of early language and literacy learning and development:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Music and language
- Stories and storytelling
- Learning about print
- Sound
Online learning includes videos, photographs, reflective questions and links to extra education and training information. It enables educators deepen their understanding about how to foster each child’s language and literacy potential.
Support books
Five leading texts on communication, language and literacy skills in the early years provide insight, information, examples of pedagogy and practice, and reflective tasks. They also provide a long-term resource your team can revisit again and again.

Who is it for?
The course is specifically designed for educators working in the early childhood education and care sector to build knowledge and contemporary practice around communication, language and literacy in the early years.
It can be used in different ways:
- as part of in-house professional learning for all educators as a team
- in small groups
- individually
- the support books can be shared with parents/carers and families.
Technology requirements are a digital device, speakers, and internet access.
